ATR and H2AX

Last month (December 2008) in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Rebecca Chanoux and colleagues reported the results of their studies on ATR and H2AX. They wrote:
“If ATR prevents the collapse of stalled replication forks into DSBs, and H2AX facilitates HR-mediated restart, the combined deficiency in ATR and H2AX would be expected to dramatically enhance the accumulation of DSBs upon replication fork stalling. Herein, we utilize both partial and complete elimination of ATR and H2AX to demonstrate that these genes work cooperatively in non-redundant pathways to suppress DSBs during S phase.”
They hypothesized that H2AX participates in a Rad51-mediated suppression of DSBs generated in the absence of ATR.
They found that increased Rad51 focal accumulation in ATR-deficient cells is dependent on H2AX, and deficiencies in both ATR and H2AX lead to synergistic increases in chromatid breaks and translocations.
They discussed further that the ATM and DNA-PK phosphorylation site on H2AX (Ser139) is required for [...]

Så er vi kommet ind i januar måned og kan med glæde fortælle, at begge hunde overlevede nytårsaften med rimelig ro. Jarla er lidt urolig i starten, men da det hele gik løs, lå de begge og snorkede på deres faste sovesteder.
Hundene har nydt godt af vi begge var hjemme mellem jul og nytår, så vi har fået gået nogle dejlige lange ture, bla. i Dyrehaven. Moni er voldsomt glad for hjortelorte… Men hjortene var de ikke specielt interesseret i. Jeg prøvede ellers at forklare dem, at det var mad og af den gode slags…hi hi…
Moni er helt ude af problemer med din halespids, den mangler bare lidt pels. Den ligner en lille antenne, eller finger, når hun løber med halen rank.
Jarla er til gengæld stadig i store problemer med kløe. Hun har ekstrem tør hud og så gør vejret det jo ikke bedre, det ved vi selv. At tør [...]

But Does the Carpet Match the Drapes?

Almost, my friends. Almost. The carpet is this purportedly sage color that has a touch of blue in it, but the drapes are most definitely olive drab. One doesn’t get too choosy when price and immediate availability are the motivating factors. I actually think the olive drab is a much better olive drab than the sage is a sage, and even if I had gone with the gold color that would likely have full-on clashed with the walls (which you may remember are painted “Camel”) I would be pleased to have those nasty, nasty oversized vertical blinds. They were on this jerry-rigged track, and they had that fuzzy on one side thing going on that you just can’t clean of dust. They’ve been up five years for our occupancy, and most likely two before that, and who knows how long the people before that might have put them up. The [...]

The Last Stop before Heaven

We have had a new arrival today at Little Hawley, but its NOT a kitten, her name is Widget and she is 119 cat years old, I cant count past 34 so we think that she is really really old . Mum went to get her from the Sam foster mum who lives a long way away. Mum has explained to us about “the last stop before heaven” our foster mum is a kitten fosterer but she has got other animals as well. She has got her own cats, pigs, sheep, tortoises, and chickens. And although she loves looking after us kittens she says she loves the other animals and the OAPs just as much. When mum and her family moved to Little Hawley it was decided it was such a brilliant place for cats because no cars come past the house and there are woods at the back to [...]

Caring for Cashmere

If you have ever come across cashmere, you’ll notice the exceptional warmth and softness of this material. I always had an interest in fabrics and cashmere is one of my favorite natural fibers. So I thought I find out where they find this type of fiber. And also the best way to care for it. As my last cashmere sweater was attack by moths and I have not worn it again. It was a terrible loss for me, but luckily I have a new sweater that I hope to keep for as long as possible. I also have a cashmere shawl (pashmina) that has been holding up pretty well. But it’s very delicate and the knits can snag easily. So it’s not something you want to go hiking in.
